About Edwina

Edwina Shaw is a Queensland writer and editor of fiction, memoir and screenplays. Her recent release, Dear Madman, is a true crime memoir examining the truth behind a family tragedy. Her first novel, Thrill Seekers based on her brother’s battle with schizophrenia, was shortlisted for the 2012 NSW Premier’s Awards. In 2020, in response to the pandemic she published A Guide Through Grief- First Aid for Your Heart and Soul. 

Over 40 of Edwina’s short pieces have been published in Australian and international journals, including Best Australian Stories, Griffith Review, Island, Grieve and Asia Literary Review, and in 2018 her screenplay M was awarded Screen Queensland funding. She is the editor of Bjelke Blues and co-editor of Our Inside Voices and Queersland.

Shaw has been teaching creative writing at the University of Queensland, for the QLD Writers Centre, and in the community since 2005. Edwina has run Relax and Write Retreats, since 2017 and now also co-facilitates international retreats with Kerstin Pilz in Bali, Vietnam, Italy, and Byron Bay, through Transformational Writing Retreats. Edwina is passionate about the healing power of story and is an experienced yoga teacher with a daily practice of over 33 years. She lives on unceded Ugarapul Country (Ipswich), in a 160-year-old stone cottage full of secrets. She writes because she can’t stop.
